My Top 5 Things To Do In Marrakech

If you’ve ever been to Marrakech, you will know that Marrakech is an assault on the senses. Your sight, smell, taste and hearing will be overloaded with the most amazing experiences. Read below for my top 5 tips of things to do when you are in Marrakech.

TIP 1: The Jamna el Fna. Unmistakably the number one place to go. Marrakech’s central square. During the day a meeting place for musicians and snake charmers. And at night an open air restaurant with the most amazing Moroccan cuisine. Don’t make photos of the snake charmers or monkeys unless you’re willing to pay for it. And try out the fresh orange juice for 5 Dirham. But order it as a takeaway so they don’t give you a glass that everybody drinks from. Tip 2 will follow shortly.

TIP 2: Le Jardin Majorelle. The Majorelle Garden is a two and half acre botanical garden and artist’s landscape garden. It was created by French Orientalist artist, Jacques Majorelle over almost forty years. The garden also has various buildings featuring the amazing Majorelle blue colour. The combination of green plants, blue sky and Majorelle blue buildings is a photographer’s dream coming true.

TIP 3: Roof terrace Cafe des Epices in the Souks. In the centre of the Souks you will find one of Marrakech’s iconic cafes, Cafe Des Epices. Epices means Spices in French. One of my favourite spots in town. Make sure you go to the roof terrace on a clear day and enjoy the view of the Atlas Mountains, with an avocado juice and the famous “Burger Cafe”

TIP 4: Day trip in the Atlas Mountains (Ourika Valley). After a couple of days you may want to escape the buzz of the town. For 600 Dirham you can rent a taxi for the day (We can organise that for you) and the driver will take you into the Ourika Valley. Highlights are the Berber museum, a carpet shop and the Seven waterfalls of Setti Fatma.

TIP 5: Camel Safari in the desert – A visit to Marrakech without a camel ride is a lost opportunity. If you take a taxi to the outskirts of Marrakech you will find many people offering camel rides. Or we can organise it for you. The best time for your camel ride will be just before sunset. The views and the light will be spectacular and you can follow the long shadows of you and your camel. You can go for the extreme option and add a quad bike experience as well.
